MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga – Mayor Crisostomo Garbo commended the personnel of the Mabalacat City Traffic Enforcement Group (MCTEG) and the Mabalacat City police for the strict implementation of “Oplan Baklas Muffler” drive.
Mayor Garbo earlier issued a stern warning to motorcycle riders on the use of loud modified mufflers or open pipes, particularly on underbone motorcycles, which have been the source of noise pollution in the city.
As the New Year reverly approaches, the MCTEG and the police force has been ramping up efforts to enforce the campaign or prohibit these modified exhaust systems, which is the source of complaints of many city residents.
Garbo reminded the public not to use their bikes with loud mufflers as an alternative to traditional firecrackers in welcoming the new year.
Records showed that on December 27 alone, the MCTEG has apprehended 34 motorcycles fitted with illegal mufflers, to highlight the local government units’ commitment to enforce noise regulations and maintain peace within the community.
MCTEG head Ralph “Basti” David said: “Our team is dedicated to ensuring that the law is respected and that the peace of our city is not disrupted by noise pollution. The apprehension of these motorcycles is a clear message that we are serious about this issue.”
Mabalacat City police commander Lt. Col. Alfredo Canlas stressed the importance of the campaign, saying: “The police force is united with the LGU in this endeavor. We want to remind everyone that while we celebrate the new year, we should not forget our responsibility to the community. Let’s keep our festivities safe and sound-friendly.”
In a related development, Barangay Dapdap chairman Glenn Tiongco was lauded for his proactive measures to ban the use of loud mufflers within his jurisdiction.
Tiongco’s initiative has garnered cheers and praises from his constituents, who have observed a noticeable improvement in the community’s noise levels.
“I am pleased to see the positive impact that our collective efforts have had on reducing noise pollution. The feedback from our residents has been overwhelming, and it motivates us to continue these initiatives for the betterment of everyone’s quality of life,” Tiongco said.
The Mabalacat City LGU and the MCTEG’s commitment to address noise pollution extends beyond the festive season.
It is part of a comprehensive approach to create a peaceful and orderly environment for all residents of Mabalacat City. Riders found violating the muffler regulations will face penalties, including the dismantling of non-compliant mufflers and possible fines.
The Mabalacat City LGU called on all motorcycle riders to comply with the regulations and to be mindful of the community’s peace and tranquility.
Residents were encouraged to report any violations to the authorities.
