FORMER world champion Manny “Pacman” Paccquiao announced that he is ready for a rematch with American rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. this year.
Pacquiao made the announcement during an appearance at Rizin 45 in Japan on New Year’s Eve event on Dec. 31, 2023.
Rizin chief executive Nobuyuki Sakakibara, in a video posted on his social media accounts, asked Pacquiao:”Can you please fight Floyd Mayweather next year?”
Pacquiao answered: “Thank you so much for inviting me here again. “I’m sorry for the last time we promised I’m going to fight this year. But like Sakakibara-san explained, next year, I hope to see you here in Japan again with a big fight against… Floyd Mayweather.”
Other details about the fight have yet to be revealed. Mayweather has also not responded to the announcement.
Pacquiao and Mayweather famously fought in May 2015, in a bout billed as the “Fight of the Century.”
Mayweather won via unanimous decision.
Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are retired
It remains to be seen if the planned rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao will be an exhibition bout or a full-fledged professional showdown.
