PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday declared January 9, 2024, a special non-working day in the City of Manila to give way for the observance of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” Proclamation No. 434 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin on January 4 stated.
Around 15,000 police personnel will be deployed to secure the Black Nazarene procession, which draws millions of Catholic faithful.
The Department of Health (DOH) declared Code White Alert for hospitals in Metro Manila starting January 6, 2024, in preparation for the annual Traslacion.
Traslacion transports a replica of Jesus Christ’s 400-year-old black wooden statue to Quiapo Church.
The annual procession usually starts at the Quirino Grandstand.
The City of Manila will mark the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene on January 9.
