
LUCENA CITY — Ireneo “Boyong” Boongaling was re-elected as Liga ng Mga Barangay (LMB)-Quezon president by 40 barangay captains in an election held at the Quezon Capitol Building in Lucena city on Friday.
The unopposed Boongaling, of Bgy. Masalukot 1, who dubs himself “4-in-1” government official, regains his seat as ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panglalawigan headed by its presiding officer Vice Gov. Anacleto Alcala III.
The “4-in-1” moniker for Boongaling refers to his being a barangay chairman of Masalukot 1 in Candelaria, elected as president of the Association of Barangay Chairmen (ABC) in his town who sits as ex-officio member of the municipal council, and as LMB president also sits as SP member in charge of the Committee on Barangay Affairs.
In his speech after the election, Boongaling, 44, profusely thanked Quezon Gov. Angelina Tan and her husband Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan for his reelection, saying he would not be where he is now if not for the solid support of the province’ first couple.
“Kundi dahil sa kanila ay wala ako sa kinalalagyan ko ngayon,” said Boongaling who also thanked his father, businessman and philanthropist Leodegario “Ka Luding” Boongaling.
As he vowed to continue his barangay development programs through the 1,209 barangay chairmen of the 39 municipalities, along with the city of Tayabas in the whole Quezon province, Boongaling also expressed his desire to increase the number of barangay health workers, claiming it is in accordance with the development agenda, and healthcare priority program of Gov. Tan for the people of the province.
On hand to support and congratulate Boongaling were his colleagues, Board members Vinnette Alcala-Naca of the province’ 2nd district, Roderick Magbuhos and Harold Butardo of the 4th district, and Angelo Eduarte, president of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL)- Quezon.
His brother- in- law, Candelaria Mayor George Suayan, also came to personally to congratulate Boongaling after the election attended by all the 40 ABC presidents of the province.
Elected with Boongaling were Jaime Nicolas of Calauag as vice president, Victor Tan of Buenavista as auditor, and Board of Directors Syvel Sincioco of Panukulan, Erasto Llagas of Burdeos, Sunday Alvarez of Lucban, Alfonso Santos of Dolores, Joyal Esguerra of San Narciso, Honorato Litas Jr. of San Francisco, Geordil Castillo of Gumaca and Lorenzo Cesar Veranga of Atimonan.
