IDUDULOG ng mga senador sa Korte Suprema ang usapin ng people’s initiative na umaarangkada para maamyendahan ang Saligang Batas.
Ayon kay Senate Minority leader Aquilino Pimentel III, binabalak nilang maghain ng petisyon sa Korte Suprema o sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) upang pigilan ang signature campaign para sa people’s initiative na layong amyendahan ang 1987 Constitution.
Sinabi niyang dapat kwestiyunin ang Comelec kung bakit nito tinanggap ang mga signature form mula sa mga hindi kilalang indibidwal.
“The case could be filed with the Comelec itself to ask them to stop what they are doing, and/or the SC (Supreme Court) to prohibit Comelec from continuing to do what they have been doing under their jurisdiction of a ministerial duty,” ani Pimentel.
“Maybe we should appeal to our compatriots, before signing, do not sign the rotating people’s initiative because the agenda is hidden,” dadag pa ng senador.
Una nang inihayag ng Comelec nitong Martes na ang temporary restraining order (TRO) lamang mula sa Korte Suprema ang makapipigil dito sa pagtanggal ng signature forms para sa people’s initiative.
Ayon sa Comelec ang mga nais mag-withdraw ng kanilang mga pirma ay maaang gawin ito sa mga lokal nilang tanggapan.
Samantala, sinabi ni Pimentel na suspendido muna ang mga talakayan sa Resolution ng Both Houses No. 6 na inihain ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.
Target ng panukalang batas na simulan ang mga pagbabago sa ekonomiya sa 1987 Constitution.
Samantala, sinabi ni Albay 2nd district Rep. Joey Salceda na naabot na ang 12 percent threshold requirement para sa voter’s signatures.
“It’s already 12.1 percent. It’s a point of no return. Let the Commission on Elections validate the signatures. They should remove the signatures from voters who they find out have been forced or coerced. And even if they do, it has already exceed the 12 percent threshold,” wika ng kongresista.
