A POLICEMAN who was slapped and kicked by a female motorist during a traffic altercation in Imus City, Cavite last February 5 was given recognition by the National Police Commission 4A (Calabarzon) on Monday.
The recognition was made during a flag-raising ceremony held at the new Imus City Hall in Bgy. Malagasang 1-G in Imus City.
Police Staff Sergeant Philip Andrew Garingo of the Imus City Component Police was awarded a Certificate of Commendation after a viral video, where he can be seen being slapped and kicked by an unruly female driver.
Garingo remained calm despite being hurt by the woman.
National Police Commission (Napolcom) acting regional director attorney Owen De Luna, Imus City Mayor Alex “AA” Advincula, Vice Mayor Homer Saquilayan and Imus City police chief Lt. Col. Jack Angog led the giving of recognition to Garingo and his buddy, Patrolman Marvin Bobis, of the Imus PNP.
The woman in the viral video, who was also found to be drunk, ended up in jail after testing positive in the alcohol breath test analysis.
Multiple cases were filed against the female motorist.
Garingo said the woman apologized to him when he visited her in jail a few days after the incident.
According to the Napolcom , Garingo’s behavior should be emulated and be made as an example that even though he could burst into anger due to the physical pain he experienced, he remained calm in such a situation.
