OPERATIVES on Wednesday arrested two Chinese nationals and confiscated an estimated P46 million worth of smuggled used clothing or “ukay-ukay” during separate anti-smuggling operations in Meycauayan City, Bulacan.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, the Bulacan PNP identified the arrested suspects as alias “Fan Shaoqing, 40, a warehouse checker; and alias “Jiawei Zhang,” 33, a warehouse manager, both of Sta. Cruz, Manila.
The two were arrested during the implementation of a search warrant at a warehouse in Industrial Park, Bgy. Libtong, Meycauayan City.
Members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Field Unit 3, the Police Regional Office 3, and the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, launched two separate operations targeting illegal warehouses in Meycauayan City.
Seized were an Isuzu truck being used to transport the smuggled goods, assorted business documents and 23,614 bundles of assorted used imported clothing.
It was learned that the smuggled used imported clothing were being sold to different parts of the country.
The arrested Chinese nationals were charged with violation of Republic Act 4653 or An Act Prohibiting the Commercial Importation of Textile Articles Commonly Known as Used Clothing and Rags.
The suspects’ passports and identification cards were also confiscated by the CIDG Region 3.
