THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the motorcycle rider in the dangerous “Superman stunt” on Marilaque Road in Tanay, Rizal that left his fellow motorbike rider dead early this week .
The incident went viral on social media.
According to LTO chief Asst. Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, the rider is a resident of Lipa City, Batangas.
Mendoza said that a show-cause order (SCO) has already been sent to the rider, who is mandated to submit a written explanation as to why no punishment will be filed against him for reckless driving.
The LTO head said he personally saw the video and although it was tragic, this could not have happened if the riders chose to be responsible.
“There will be a hearing on this case as part of the due process and I expect the rider to explain well since what is at stake here is the privilege given to him by the government to ride a motorcycle,” said Mendoza.
He said that the fact the stunt was done along a public road and even inflicted injuries to at least six other road users already showed glaring violations of the traffic rules and regulations.
The other rider was reported to be a motovlogger.
In the SCO signed by LTO-Calabarzon Regional Director Elmer Decena, the two riders “recklessly or without reasonable caution and regard for the safety of others performed unsafe maneuvers.”
“In view hereof, you are hereby directed appear and/or submit your response under oath within five days from receipt hereof, attaching thereto all pertinent documents to rebut all the aforesaid allegation, to show cause as to why you should not be administratively charged for reckless driving and/or why your license should not be suspended or revoked for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle,” the order read.
The SCO added that failure of the rider to submit an explanation shall be deemed as a waiver, which would give authority to the LTO to use the available pieces of evidence, to decide on his case.
