CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga – Police arrested a driver of a mayoral bet for alleged vote-buying in Bulacan on election day.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, the San Jose del Monte City police were informed that on May 12, a vehicle with a mayoral bet’s name was seen circling Tungkong Mangga Elementary School in Bgy. Tungkong Mangga, San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan.
Operatives of the Jose Del Monte City Police Station and the City Traffic Management Office (CTMO) immediately responded and saw a 62-year-old alleged driver of a mayoral candidate distributing food packs to voters.
The man was immediately arrested for violation of the Omnibus Election Code or the Batas Pambansa 881, which states that distribution of food, money, or any other valuable item that may influence a voter is strictly prohibited.
“PRO3 strictly implemented the election laws to ensure the integrity of the recently concluded elections. We will not hesitate to file cases against anyone who violates the law. This is in accordance with the directive of our PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, and the call of our beloved President (Ferdinand Marcos Jr.) for an election that truly reflects the will of the people,” Fajardo said.
