THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday officially proclaimed the 12 winning senators for the 2025 national and local midterm elections.
Comelec chairman George Garcia led the proclamation rites held at The Manila Hotel Tent City.
Based on the National Certificate of Canvass (NCOC), the following candidates made it to the “Magic 12”:
- Bong Go – 27,121,073 votes
- Bam Aquino – 20,971,899 votes
- Ronald Dela Rosa – 20,773,946 votes
- Erwin Tulfo – 17,118,881 votes
- Francis Pangilinan – 15,343,229 votes
- Rodante Marcoleta – 15,250,723 votes
- Panfilo Lacson – 15,106,111 votes
- Vicente Sotto III – 14,832,996 votes
- Pia Cayetano – 14,573,430 votes
- Camille Villar – 13,651,274 votes
- Lito Lapid – 13,394,102 votes
- Imee Marcos – 13,339,227 votes
In his keynote remarks at the proclamation ceremony, Comelec chairman George Garcia congratulated the newly-elected senators and acknowledged the mandate they received from millions of Filipino voters.
The senators-elect were called to the stage one by one to receive their certificates.
Reelectionist Senator Marcos was the first to be proclaimed. She was joined by her mother, Imelda Romualdez-Marcos, and her sons, Borgy and Michael Manotoc.
Marcos said her priority bills would focus on food security, job creation and social assistance.
Proclaimed next were Senator Lapid, Las Piñas City Rep. Camille Villar, and Senator Cayetano .
Cayetano said she would advance her pet bills focused on health, education, energy, and women and family.
Also proclaimed winners were former senators Lacson and Sotto III.
Lacson said he had already discussed with some incoming and incumbent senators the formation of an “independent, credible and transparent” Senate in the 20th Congress.
“Kung sino man ang masuportahan, ito lang ang lagi naming ipagdidiinan, kailangan independent tayo, kailangan transparent at kailangan competent tayo,” he said.
According to Sotto, his priority in the Senate is to propose bills that would combat fake news and provision of a 14th-month pay.
SAGIP Party-list Rep. Marcoleta and former senator Pangilinan were also officially proclaimed as senatorial winners.
Pangilinan is in the United States for his daughter’s graduation. He was represented by his siblings.
ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Tulfo called for unity in the Senate and urged fellow lawmakers to set aside political differences for the greater good.
Senator Dela Rosa thanked his supporters for granting him another six-year term.
Former senator Bam Aquino, who ranked second overall, expressed appreciation to the youth for their support and vowed to champion free education and improved quality of life for all citizens.
For the 20th Congress, there will be four sibling pairs in the Senate. They are Senators Jinggoy Estrada and JV Ejercito; Senators Mark and Camille Villar; Senators Pia and Alan Peter Cayetano; and Senators Raffy and Erwin Tulfo.
The newly-elected senators will assume office on June 30 and will serve until 2031.
