OUSTED Negros Oriental congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. on Tuesday morning was rushed to a hospital due to severe stomach pain.
Teves was brought to a government hospital at around 6 a.m. after he complained of stomach ache, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.
According to Teves’ lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, his client requested to be brought to a hospital after experiencing excruciating stomach pain.
“He was buckling over due to pain. He requested to be brought to a hospital,” Topacio said.
Topacio said the doctors concluded that his client’s condition required surgical intervention which is not available at the government facility where the former solon was brought.
The lawyer said government doctors recommended that Teves be transferred to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City.
BJMP spokesman Superintendent Jayrex Joseph Bustinera said Teves first complained of stomach ache on Sunday night.
Bustinera said the former lawmaker was given first aid treatment and medication but when Teves’ condition did not improve, the BJMP physician recommended that he be taken to the nearest public hospital.
Teves faces multiple charges in connection with the March 2023 assassination of Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo and several others.
The former solon denied any involvement and remains in detention while his cases are pending in court.
Prior to his hospitalization, Teves was transferred to the Metro Manila District Jail at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig from a jail facility of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
