CLASSES and government work on Wednesday were suspended due to a bomb threat in Santa Cruz, Laguna.
Santa Cruz Mayor Edgar San Luis issued the suspension order through a Facebook post.
San Luis said the suspension of classes and work was to ensure the safety of the students, teachers, government workers and the citizens while authorities are conducting an investigation.

“Today, a message has been circulating on social media regarding a supposed bomb threat in our town. As a precautionary measure, classes in all levels—both public and private—are suspended, along with the temporary halt of operations at the local government while authorities investigate the matter,” San Luis said.
The mayor also urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.

“We encourage everyone not to believe or share unofficial reports. In situations like this, false information can cause unnecessary fear, panic, and danger,” the mayor said.
“We will not tolerate anyone spreading false information that causes fear in our community. Those responsible will be held accountable,” the mayor added.
A message that circulated on social media claimed that bombs had been planted in several capitol facilities and schools by an unidentified group.
The explosives were reportedly placed in trash bins in offices and facilities, and are set to explode within a few hours.
Col. Ricardo Dalmacia, Laguna Provincial Director, immediately ordered the deployment of K9 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit to conduct thorough sweeps of local government offices and educational institutions.
Dalmacia said the move is part of precautionary measures to ensure the safety and security of residents, employees, and students while the threat remains unverified.
Meanwhile, Governor-elect Sol Aragones issued a strong warning to those responsible for the bomb scare that they will face the full force of the law.
Aragones said authorities are now tracing the source of the message that circulated on social media and various chat groups.
She said such threats are being taken seriously and that the police are working diligently to identify and apprehend those involved.
“I strongly warn those behind this bomb threat – do not attempt to disrupt the scheduled activities, especially on the day of my oathtaking, where I will officially assume office as the governor of Laguna,” Aragones declared.
According to Aragones, no attempt to sow fear or disorder will be tolerated, particularly during a time of peaceful transition and public service.
Authorities continue to assure the public that all necessary precautions are in place to ensure safety and order in the province.
In a social media post, outgoing Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez, said that according to the initial report from the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Unit, the bomb threat was just a hoax.
