DMW PADLOCKS BEAUTY SALON, LEARNING CENTER IN CAVITE FOR ILLEGAL RECRUITMENT

THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Wednesday closed a beauty salon and a training center in Cavite for illegally recruiting Filipinos for jobs abroad.

Padlocked were the VMJ Beauty Salon and Spa and Jef & Eds Learning Center in Imus City, Cavite.

According to the DMW, the two establishments are operating without a license or authority to recruit workers for overseas employment.

The DMW said the establishments posed as recruitment agency and accommodation facility, promising jobs as beautician or hairdresser, manicurist and nail technician in Saudi Arabia with a promise of an estimated monthly salary of P35,000.

However, applicants were first required to undergo training and pay P15,000 as training fee.

DMW Assistant Secretary Jerome Alcantara led the closure operation of the two establishments, in coordination with the city government, and the Imus City Police Station.

The closure operation is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to protect the public from illegal recruitment and exploitation.

“Nandito tayo ngayon sa bisa ng kapangyarihan ng DMW sa pamamagitan ng RA (Republic Act) 11641 na nagbigay sa amin ng mandato at sa direktiba rin ng Pangulo Bongbong Marcos Jr. at Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac na paigtingin ang kampanya natin laban sa illegal recruitment at human trafficking,” Alcantara said.

Owners of the two establishments face charges for violation of RA 8042 or the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act, particularly illegal recruitment.

The DMW will also recommend the cancellation of the business registration certificates of the raided establishments with the local government and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

These closures bring to 18 the total number of illegal recruitment fronts shut down by the DMW so far this year.
