Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla officiates the oathtaking of Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Tanglaw-Diwa” Class of 1992, as the officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday, replacing Gen. Nicolas Torre III. Prior to his appointment as the new leader of the national police force, Nartatez was the commander of the Area Police Command (APC) in Western Mindanao. Nartatez vowed to continue Torre’s programs, including the police’ 5-minute response time. He also promised to pursue proactive crime prevention, emphasizing his goal of ensuring that people can walk the streets safely and without fear.
