CONGRESSMAN Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin of the 1st district of Pampanga has taken steps to bring the government’s P20 per kilo rice program closer to his constituents.
Last Thursday, Lazatin, accompanied by Chief Political Affairs officer Reina Manuel, met with officers from the Department of Agriculture Region 3 led by Business Development officer Glory Ann Herrera to discuss the initiative.
The lawmaker earlier filed House Resolution 278, urging the DA to establish KADIWA “Benteng Bigas Meron Na” rolling stores in the first district of Pampanga.
At present, 162 KADIWA outlets nationwide sell rice at P20 per kilo.
The Pampanga solon noted that there are insufficient outlets or “pop-up” stores to serve vulnerable sectors in the province on a regular basis.
“The KADIWA program is significant in addressing food security, especially for marginalized communities. It will greatly benefit our residents in the first district if rolling stores are established here,” Lazatin said.
Food security has long been a key advocacy of Lazatin.
Other DA personnel present during the meeting were Karmela Reyes, Elizer Garcillano, Lilibeth Manliclic, June Manliclic, Ivy Pamposa, Mhayland Viray, Mar John Castillanes, and Archie Punla.
