BAGUIO City Mayor Benjamin Magalong on Friday resigned as special adviser to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
ICI is the body created by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to investigate graft-tainted public works projects.
The resignation came following reports of the President’s order to review if Magalong’s appointment to the ICI is proper.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President wanted to avoid a conflict of interest.
Magalong was earlier appointed as ICI special adviser while fulfilling his duties as Baguio City mayor.
Malacanang said the directive aims to ensure that the independence of the commission would not be compromised and that no laws would be violated.
Meanwhile, Magalong stressed in his letter that he has never neglected, and will never neglect, his primary responsibility to the people of Baguio, whose welfare remains at the center of his public service.
