TAAL Volcano in Batangas early Wednesday morning erupted, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to Phivolcs, a steam driven phreatic eruption was recorded in the volcano around 12:57 a.m. to 1:02 a.m. Oct.1, 2025.
Another phreatomagmatic eruption was recorded at 2:02 a.m. of the same day.
The eruptions were captured by the thermal camera at the Taal Volcano Observatory and the IP camera at the Main Crater Observation Center.
Phivolcs said the second event produced a 2500-meter-high eruption plume that drifted northwest.
Phreatomagmatic eruption occurs when rising magma interacts with underground or shallow surface external water.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol said there is no connection between the strong earthquake in Cebu province on Tuesday night and the minor eruptions of Taal Volcano in Batangas on Wednesday morning.
“Yung Taal Volcano, every now and then, at Alert Level 1, pumuputok talaga ‘yun. Nag-aalburoto from time to time. In fact, we have more than 90 phreatic and phreatomagnetic eruptions since April last year,” Bacolcol explained.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1 or low level of unrest.
