THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended for 90 days the license of a driver for allowing a child to steer a moving vehicle.
In a statement on Monday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the 90-day suspension is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to ensure discipline on roads for the safety of all road users.
A video that went viral on social media on Saturday showed the child on a man’s lap “driving” the car somewhere in Butuan City. Both were not wearing seatbelts.
The LTO immediately issued a show-cause order to the driver, directing him and the registered owner of the car, to appear before the LTO Office in Quezon City on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, to explain why he should not be administratively charged for reckless driving.
The LTO said the driver could be held liable for reckless driving, failure to wear or use a seatbelt, and allowing a child to sit in the front seat of a moving vehicle.
“Failure on your part to attend and/or no comment filed on that day shall be construed as a waiver of your right to be heard in this investigation,” the LTO order said.
