A 17-YEAR-OLD student on Wednesday died after being accidentally struck by a javelin during a sports practice session at a school field in Bgy. Mabiga, Mabalacat City, Pampanga.
A report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. by Pampanga police director Col. Eugene M. Marcelo identified the victim as Alfred, a resident of Old Macapagal Village, Mabalacat City.
The tragedy occurred while students and coaches were conducting a javelin-throwing practice at the Garden of Petals and Petals Sports Area.
A fellow student named Renzheil, 17, of Poblacion, Mabalacat City had just thrown a javelin when the victim reportedly crossed the training field and was accidentally struck in the body by the spear.
The victim was rushed to the Mabalacat District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Recovered at the school training field was the broken javelin.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine possible criminal and civil liabilities of the school personnel overseeing the sports activity.
The Mabalacat City police are conducting further investigation into the incident.
