OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Tuesday arrested a jobless man pretending to be a CIDG agent in an entrapment operation in front of a hotel in Bgy. Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City, Quezon.
CIDG- Quezon Provincial Field Unit chief Lt. Col. Rix Villareal said the suspect, an alias “Edgardo,” 35, of St. Jude Village, Bgy. Mayao Castillo, Lucena City, was caught by surprise when officers arrested him shortly after receiving a marked money from his supposed victim.
Seized from the suspect were several identification cards, including a fake CIDG ID, and the five pieces of marked P1,000 bills used in the entrapment.
The marking and inventory of the confiscated pieces of evidence were conducted at the place of occurrence and was duly witnessed by village councilmen Wlliam Labay and barangay watchman Armando Sioco
Prior to the arrest, the official said a 37-year- old woman who was a victim of rape sought help from his office against the suspect who allegedly introduced himself as a policeman assigned at the CIDG and promised to help her to expedite the case in exchange for money.
The victim alleged that she already gave P15,000 to the suspect in separate occasions and that the latter was asking her again to give an additional P5,000 in order to make sure that her rapist, who is out on bail, will be convicted.
To validate the woman’s complaint, Villareal, along with operatives of the Lucena Component City Police Station under Lt. Col. Ryan Hernandez, jointly conducted an entrapment at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the place where the victim handed the marked money to the suspect.
The suspect, who is now detained at the CIDG- Quezon detention cell, was charged with extortion and usurpation of authority.
It was learned that the suspect has been collecting money from individuals with pending cases in court in exchange for assurance that their cases will eventually be dismissed.
According to Villareal, more individuals who were also victimized by the suspect are now starting to surface to file complaints against the accused.
