SOME 7,000 indigent families in Angeles City and Porac town in Pampanga on Wednesday received free rice as Christmas gift from a businessman-philanthropist.
Robert Gaza distributed 15-kilo sacks of rice to some 1,600 persons, mostly elderly, at the Korean Town in Angeles City
Gaza is the president of Digama Waste Management Services in Porac which destroys smuggled products and incinerates fake cigarettes for government agencies. He also owns several other businesses in Angeles City.
In the past several days, Gaza also distributed free sacks of rice to some 6,400 indigent families in the city of Angeles and in Porac.
“Ginagawa natin ito tuwing Disyembre, nagsisilbing social responsibility project ng Digama upang kahit paano makatulong sa mga kababayan nating mahihirap,” he said.
Last month, Gaza distributed free rice and conducted feeding activities to some 2,000 typhoon victims in Cebu.
Beneficiaries, including barangay tanods, expressed their gratitude to Gaza for the Christmas gifts they received.
“Malaking tulong po itong ibinigay sa akin at sa aking mga kapitbahay ni Sir Robert. Nagpapasalamat po kami sa kanya at sana ay huwag siyang magsawang tumulong sa katulad naming mahihirap,” an old woman who identified herself as Aling Luz said.
Another beneficiary, Edgar, 59, said he and some other latecomers were not in the recipients’ list last Wednesday but still received free rice.
“Nakita po namin ng ilang kabarangay ko na may mga nakapilang tao. Nung magtanong kami at malaman na may binibigay na libreng bigas, lumapit kami sa namimigay (Gaza) at binigyan rin kami kahit wala kami sa listahan,” Edgar said.
