CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga — The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) on Sunday joined the nation in honoring the heroism and supreme sacrifice of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) troopers who were killed during the 2015 Mamasapano clash in Maguindanao.
PRO3 director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr., together with members of the PRO3 Command Group and Regional Staff, led the . wreath-laying ceremony at the PRO3 Heroes’ Monument at 8a.m. Sunday.
The activity paid tribute to the courage, valor, and selfless service of the fallen SAF 44, whose legacy continues to inspire members of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The commemoration was held in line with Proclamation No. 164 issued by former President Rodrigo Duterte, declaring January 25 of every year as the Day of National Remembrance for the SAF 44.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the reading of the chief PNP’s message by Peñones, conveying the message of PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr..
Nartatez, in his message, emphasized that the sacrifice of the SAF 44 remains a constant reminder for every police officer to uphold courage, integrity, and unwavering commitment to duty.
“Ang kanilang sakripisyo ay hindi kailanman mawawalan ng saysay. Ito ang nagpapaalala sa atin kung bakit tayo nanunumpa at patuloy na naglilingkod,” the message read.
Similar commemorative activities were simultaneously conducted in police units nationwide, reaffirming the PNP’s enduring respect for the SAF 44 and its steadfast commitment to honor their memory through faithful service to the Filipino people.
