SAN JOSE CITY, Nueva Ecija — A road accident on Maharlika Highway in Bgy. Caanawan, this city on Saturday left two persons and one wounded.
A report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director Brig. Gen. Jess B. Mendez, Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office chief Col. Ritchie R. Claravall identified the fatalities as Feliciano Jardinez III, 24, a resident of Bgy. Burgos, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, and John Leo Balcita, 17, of Bgy. Caanawan, San Jose City.
The injured was Balcita’s passenger, King Leander Peralta, 22.
The vehicles involved in the accident were an Isuzu Giga aluminum wing van truck driven by Rino Sales, 50, a resident of San Miguel, Bulacan; a Honda Click motorcycle driven by Jardinez; and a Yamaha Mio motorcycle driven by Balcita.
A CCTV footage from the area showed that the truck and the Honda Click were both traveling southbound toward the Science City of Muñoz when the motorcycle rider allegedly attempted to overtake.
While occupying the opposite lane, the Honda Click collided head-on with the incoming Yamaha Mio, which was traveling northbound toward the city proper of San Jose.
The Honda Click and its rider were struck by the truck and were dragged for about five to 10 meters.
The Yamaha Mio and its two riders were thrown to the roadside.
All victims were rushed to the Ospital ng Lungsod ng San Jose, where Balcita and Jardinez were declared dead on arrival.
The truck driver is currently under the custody of the San Jose City Police Station as investigation is ongoing.
