THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s (CIDG’s) anti-illegal gambling operations have resulted in the arrest of 23 people in Bulacan and in Tarlac.
According to CIDG Regional Field Unit 3 chief Col. Grant Gollod, the suspects in Bulacan were arrested while operating and betting in the game called “drop ball.”
He said that under “Oplan Roulette” drive, the CIDG launched an operation on NIA Road, Bulacan.
Arrested were the alleged financier, alias “Chelle,” 43, and operators with aliases “Annu,” “Bal,” and “Joey.”
Several bettors were also caught, including drivers, construction workers, and residents from Bulacan and nearby areas.
Seized were a drop ball triangle net, four betting boards with playing cards, three small rubber balls, plastic baskets and basins, and a total of P21,886 bet money in different denominations.
Gollod said the operation stemmed from reports of ongoing illegal gambling activities in the area.
The arrested suspects were brought to the CIDG Bulacan Provincial Field Unit for documentation.
Meanwhile, Gollod said seven more individuals were arrested in a separate operation in Bgy. Ablang Sapang, Moncada, Tarlac.
According to the CIDG Tarlac Provincial Field Unit headed by Lt. Col. Arvin Hosmillo, the operation was launched following a tip from a concerned citizen about illegal gambling in the area.
Among those arrested were bet takers and bettors. They were caught in the act of operating and participating in the same “drop ball” gambling activity at a local fair.
Officers confiscated a funnel, a ping-pong ball, betting boards, a drop board card, two plastic baskets, and P8,410 in bet money.
The suspects were taken to the CIDG Tarlac Provincial Field Unit facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602, as amended by Republic Act 9287.
