AUTHORITIES warned homeowners, particulary senior citizens, against talking to strangers after an elderly woman and her grandchildren fell victim to a “birthday cake modus.”
Police said a 69-years-old woman and her two grandchildren from Bgy. San Bartolome, Novaliches, Quezon City were victimized by a group of robbers.
The suspects pretended to be from the local government and claimed they had a birthday cake to be given to the elderly.
The elderly woman told police that on Tuesday, two female individuals arrived at their house saying the local government had a “birthday cake” for her.
The suspects, who sweet-talked the senior citizen, were allowed entry into the house.
Once the two female suspects were granted access into the house, four other male individuals suddenly entered, tied the senior citizen and her two grandchildren and ransacked the entire house.
The victims said the suspects even ate their food before fleeing.
The suspects fled with the victims’ car, two motorcycles, cash and other belongings worth over P1 million.
One of the suspects, the male driver, was arrested in a follow-up operation by the police.
