SENATOR Win Gatchalian called for the immediate enactment of the “GINHAWA” measure, or the Granting Increase in Take-Home Pay for All Working Filipinos Act, to help Filipino workers , particularly those in the middle-income bracket,- cope with rising costs driven by the Middle East crisis.
The proposed measure seeks to increase take-home pay by raising the income tax exemption threshold from P250,000 to P400,000 annually, providing critical breathing room for middle-class Filipino workers. The bill also aims to increase the cap on tax-free bonuses from P90,000 to P150,000.
“Kailangan din ng middle class ng tulong para maibsan ang pasakit na dulot ng mataas na presyo ng langis at mga bilihin. The middle class has been the lifeblood of the local economy, driving domestic consumption and contributing significantly to government revenue,” said Gatchalian, chair of the Senate Finance Committee and PROTECT ad hoc panel.
The measure also seeks to remove taxes on service charges earned by service industry workers, as well as on additional compensation such as overtime, holiday pay, night shift differential, hazard pay, and on the honoraria and allowances of poll workers.
