TAIWAN NEEDS MORE FILIPINO WORKERS — MECO

THE Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO)  on Saturday said more Filipino workers are needed in Taiwan.

MECO chairperson Cheloy Garafil, in a Saturday News Forum in Quezon City, said Taiwanese employers prefer Filipinos for their work ethic and good attitude.

Garafil said Taiwanese employers want Filipinos in the semiconductor, agriculture, and service industries, with entry-level salaries ranging from P50,000 to P100,000.

“Filipinos are efficient workers, kind and hardworking,” she said.

According to her, there are also slots for caregivers in Taiwan.

Garafil said that of the 200,000 Filipinos in Taiwan, around 170,000 are workers.

Apart from workers, Taiwan is also inviting college and senior high school students to take various courses for its industries.

“Maraming need na workers ang Taiwan kasi nag-eexpand sila doon. Hindi lang workers ang kailangan nila, they want exchange students. Mga college students, senior high school students to study courses in Taiwan. In the next few months, continuing naman ito. We will be spearheading some projects,” she added.

The MECO chair said that there are ongoing talks about the possible extension of the trial visa-free entry program for Filipinos going to Taiwan.
