MEMBERS of the Nueva Ecija Provincial Police Office (NEPPO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection-Nueva Ecija on Friday destroyed the seized illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnics during a ceremony held at the police camp in Cabanatuan City.
Nueva Ecija director Col. Ferdinand D. Germino ordered the burning of the oversized and illegal firecrackers following a crackdown launched by all police stations in the province on dealers and retailers selling the prohibited crackers.
Among those destroyed were illegal firecrackers consisting of pla-pla, Judas belt, various kinds of fountains, kwitis or baby rockers, and assorted types of “boga” or locally-made improvised cannon.
The Nueva Ecija top cop urged Novo Ecijanos to refrain from patronizing the hazardous firecrackers during the New Year festivities.
“Let us welcome the New Year safely and responsibly by avoiding the use of illegal firecrackers,” Germino said.
“There are many other meaningful ways to celebrate without putting ourselves and our loved ones at risk,” he added.
Germino urged local residents to actively participate in promoting safety by reporting the selling and distribution of illegal firecrackers to authorities.
Reporting to authorities he said will play a crucial role in ensuring a secure and accident-free celebration of the New Year.
