DEMONSTRATING hands on leadership, Laguna Governor Sol Aragones began the first day of 2026 by reporting for duty at JP Rizal District Hospital in Calamba, Laguna on Thursday, January 1, 2026, fulfilling her commitment to start the year by serving the public in a government healthcare facility.
“Gaya ng pangako ko mag o-opisina tayo sa ospital.” said Sol Aragones as she opened the year at the hospital.
The governor was joined by OIC–Provincial Health Officer Dr. Odilon Inoncillo as they conducted hospital rounds and received updates on the facility’s status.
Health officials reported several firecracker-related incidents following New Year celebrations, noting that all recorded cases involved minor injuries only.
The Laguna governor also personally visited mothers who gave birth on New Year’s Day, warmly welcoming the first babies of 2026.
The visit brought smiles and encouragement to families in the maternity ward. In a light and heartfelt moment, the governor asked the mothers, “Pede ba ko maging ninang nyan?” referring to the three newborn babies delivered on New Year’s Day.
She gave small gifts to the newborns and also extended gifts to the parents, recognizing their joy and welcoming them into the New Year.
Aragones personally held one of the babies, sharing that the moment reminded her of her own child, Anika, when she was still an infant.
The interaction reflected her compassionate approach to leadership and her personal connection to the families she serves.
By spending the first day of the year inside a public hospital checking on patients, supporting healthcare workers, and celebrating new life, Aragones set a positive and service driven tone for 2026, highlighting empathy, accessibility, and people centered governance.
