STA. CRUZ, Zambales — A thief on Friday night hit a church in this town.
A report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jess Mendez showed that robbed was the office of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish in Bgy. Población South.
Rev. Fr. Dexter Fabie told the police that around P179,000 in cash was stolen from the church.
A report filed by Rafael Monsalud, the church’s head catechist, prompted an investigation by the Sta. Cruz Police Station.
An investigation showed that the office door and a drawer containing cash had been forcibly opened.
The suspect gained entry by cutting the lock buckle of the office door before destroying the drawer where the money was kept.
The suspect, identified as alias “Dayin,” a 29-year-old resident of Sitio Guinipang, Bgy. Población South, was seen entering the premises and taking the money.
Police reviewed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which showed the suspect leaving the church while carrying a pink-colored pouch believed to contain the stolen cash.
Pursuit operations were launched for the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen money.
