SEVENTY-ONE students and teachers at the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU)in Ilocos Norte were rushed to the hospital due to alleged food poisoning during the weekend.
The victims were 59 students and 12 teachers at the state-run university.
MMSU director of the strategic communication office Herdy Yumul told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that the victims suffered stomach ache, vomiting, and loose bowel movement after eating chicken afritada and string beans adobo they ordered from outside the school.
Yumul said the victims came from a practice for the University Games scheduled on November 11 to 15 when the incident happened.
The MMSU management said the university’s food service and auxiliary concessionaires were not in any way involved in the incident.
“The safety and well-being of our university community are of utmost priority, and we are taking this matter very seriously,” the school, on a Facebook post, said.
