ORION, Bataan — Orion police officer in charge Capt. Silvestre Colanza led the campaign to eliminate loose firearms in the municipality.
Colanza’s determined effort has yielded significant results, with the confiscation of 22 firearms and the voluntary surrender and safekeeping of an additional 44 assorted firearms.
The anti-loose guns campaign was in line with the directives of Bataan police director Col. Palmer Tria under the marching orders of Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr..
Colanza and his men have been executing “Operation KATOK,” leading to town residents with expired firearms licenses willingly handing over their firearms to law enforcement agencies for secure storage.
“In our unwavering commitment to uphold peace and security, the Orion Municipal Police Station, in conjunction with the Philippine National Police (PNP), is intensifying its efforts to combat the proliferation of loose firearms, Colanza said.
He said their primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of the community, especially as they prepare for the forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) on October 30.
“Illegal firearms serve as instruments of crime, and we are resolute in our mission to rid our society of this menace,” the Orion top cop said. Colanza urged all town gun owners to regularly update and renew their firearm licenses, emphasizing the importance of responsible firearm ownership.
