A POLICE officer and five members of the New People’s Army on Friday were killed in an encounter in Bilar, Bohol.
The clash erupted as police and military troops served a warrant of arrest against a ranking NPA leader monitored to be hiding in Purok Matin-ao, Bgy. Campagao in Bilar municipality.
Authorities said troopers were met with heavy gunfire as they were approaching the hideout of the targets, triggering a firefight which lasted for nearly three hours.
Five NPA members identified as Domingo Compoc alias “Ka Silong,” described as a squad leader of the CPP/NPA Bohol Party Committee; Parlido Segovia alias “Ka Aldrin,” one Marlon alias “Ka Darwin,” Hannah Joy Cesista alias “Ka Maya/Lean” and one “Ka Juaning” were killed in the operation.
However, the rebels managed to shoot Cpl. Gilbert Amper who was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Congressman Simeon Toribio Memorial Hospital.
Another officer identified as Cpl. Gerard Rollon was wounded.
Police Regional Office 7 director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said that the five slain guerrillas were remnants of the CPP-NPA Bohol Party Committee.
Aberin said that Compoc was also identified as a former commanding officer of the NPA’s Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda who has been listed as the Top 1 Most Wanted Person in Bohol.
Segovia was described as an assistant squad leader and political guide of the same rebel group while the three others were all squad members.
Recovered from the slain suspects were one M-16 Baby Armalite, one R4 M-16 automatic rifle, one M-16 rifle, three caliber .45 semi-automatic pistols and several loaded magazines.
