POLICE Major Allan de Castro, the primary suspect in the disappearance of beauty queen Catherine Camilon, on Tuesday was cited in contempt by the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs for allegedly not telling the truth.
During the hearing of the committee on the case of the missing beauty queen, De Castro denied his relationship with the victim despite the affidavits of witnesses and photographs showing that he and Camilon had a relationship.
Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, chairman of the committee, asked De Castro if Camilon was his girlfriend, which the police officer abruptly replied “no.”
Dela Rosa was not satisfied with De Castro’s answer and asked the victim’s mother, Rosario Camilon, to confirm if her daughter and De Castro were in a relationship.
Camilon’s mother said De Castro and her daughter had a relationship.
Senator Robinhood “Robin” C. Padilla moved to cite in contempt De Castro.
No one objected.
Dela Rosa approved the motion citing de Castro in contempt “for lying before the committee.” He ordered that de Castro be taken into custody.
The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms took De Castro in custody.
Meanwhile, Padilla appealed to Jeffrey Magpantay, another person linked to the case, to cooperate with investigators to shed light on the five-month-old case.
“Kasi ang ayaw namin dito, kung sino ang taong maliit, ‘yan ang napapahamak. ‘Yan ang laging ganyan sa atin, laging may fall guy,” Padilla said.
“Sana magkaroon kayo ng lakas ng loob makipag-usap sa amin, handa kaming making,” he added.
