PERSONNEL of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday flagged down the convoy of former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson for violating the Edsa Bus Lane rule.
Singson was in the back seat of his Fortress bulletproof vehicle when they were flagged down around 9 a.m. on the northbound side of EDSA-Cubao in Quezon City.
MMDA Special Operations Group Strike Force head Gabriel Go said they are just enforcing the law.
He said Singson was apologetic of the incident.
“We have to be fair. We have to implement what is right,” Go said.
According to the MMDA, only authorized vehicles are allowed to use the EDSA carousel bus lane such as public utility buses, emergency vehicles, and clearly-marked government vehicles responding to emergencies.
Meanwhile, Singson has offered a P100,000 reward to MMDA traffic enforcers who flagged his convoy down for unauthorized use of the EDSA busway.
In a television interview, the former Ilocos Sur governor said the offer was not a “suhol” but a reward to encourage more enforcers to apprehend erring motorists.
