MANILA and some local government units in Cavite province have declared suspension of in person classes for public and private schools in all levels on April 25 and 26, 2024.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan issued the declaration due to the forecasted danger heat index level of 44°C, according to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
Schools were advised to shift to asynchronous classes.
In Cavite, the cities of General Trias, Imus, Bacoor and Trece Martires, and the municipalities of Noveleta, Kawit and Tanza also declared suspension of classes in all levels on the same dates due to the high heat index forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The announcements were made through the local government unit’s (LGUs) respective social media pages on Wednesday.
The local chief executives advised school authorities to implement alternative learning modalities.
Records showed the towns in the lower part of Cavite province are experiencing extreme heat, which prompted the local chief executives to order the suspension of classes.
“Para maiwasan natin ang heat stroke sanhi ng init kaya po sinuspende po natin ang klase ng mga bata,” Noveleta Mayor Dino Chua said.
A danger heat index of 54 degrees Celsius was recorded in Cavite City at 3:03 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the post of the local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
