SENATOR Imee Marcos urged the Department of Agriculture to intensify efforts in providing drought-resistant varieties of palay to farmers amid the dire need for irrigation water due to the effects of El Niño phenomenon.
“Ang kailangan ng ating magsasaka ay yaong matibay-tibay sa tag-tuyot at short duration o short maturation na rice varieties na ‘di pang buong 90 days,” Marcos said.
The senator dubbed the “Super Ate Imee ng Bayan” on Tuesday visited San Leonardo in Nueva Ecija and was warmly welcomed by Mayor Froilan “Elan” Nagaño, his wife, former congresswoman Dr. Maricel Natividad-Nagaño; Nina Nagaño-Joson; members of the Sangguniang Bayan; barangay officials and students of the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology.
She led the distribution of cash assistance worth P3,000 each to a total of 1,000 students at the NEUST gymnasium as part of the government’s Department of Social Welfare and Development program.
Earlier on the day, the senator also distributed an amount of P3,000 each to 1,000 students in the town of Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija.
