THE political party Lakas-CMD is set to forge an alliance with Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) in preparation for the 2025 midterm elections.
Lakas-CMD spokesperson and House of Representatives Deputy Speaker David “Jayjay” Suarez during the press briefing at the HRep on Monday announced the planned alliance, which he described as based on common values and shared ideology.
“Of course we carry the President’s banner, calling for unity, development and progress, and I think this should be the basis of unity for all the other political parties that want to align with the PFP. Ang mahalaga din po dito mga kasama ay palapit na po kasi tayo sa midterm elections which is happening next year,” Suarez said.
He added that it is also vital for them to see the alliance not only on the national level, but also on the provincial and local levels as well.
“As we have seen, when it comes to implementation of programs and projects, we need to see alignment also. When it comes to support and when it comes to proper implementation and execution, we do look forward to this alliance and I do hope that the other political parties will follow soon,” he said.
The President earlier endorsed possible alliances with political parties for the 2025 midterm elections.
Asked if Lakas-CMD is willing to coalesce with Vice President Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago for the 2025 elections, Suarez replied that the proposition has not been discussed as a party matter in any Lakas-CMD executive committee meeting.
He clarified however, that Lakas-CMD is “not closing our doors to any opportunity. We are not closing our doors to any alliance as long as we are basing our alliance on shared common ideals. So iyon po iyong pinakamahalaga doon shared common ideals, especially when it comes to the policy directives of our President which we have to support 100%. Unequivocal iyon. At syempre ‘yung posisyon po ng leader namin dito sa Kongreso na si Speaker Martin Romualdez has to be 110% support.”
According to Suarez, the party focus at present is to strengthen our position for 2025. He said this shall be done to its alliance with the PFP, and further cooperation with other national political parties, such as the Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition, National Unity Party, Nacionalista Party and Aksyon Demokratiko.
Lone Aksyon Demokratiko Rep. Joel Chua considers the alliance of his party with Lakas-CMD and PFP as a welcome development.
“Ang banner na binabandera po ng ating Pangulo ay unity, so kung lahat po ng naniniwala sa agenda, sa programa, at sa administrasyon ng Pangulo, tingin ko dapat nagkakaisa po talaga. Kaya malaking bagay po ito para sa amin,” Chua said.
Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonte Adiong believes that the strength of democracy is really to form a coalition.
“Pagkakaalam ko po ang ating Presidente, from the very start, when he started the campaign back in 2022, ang parati po niyang mensahe talaga is unity. Alam po natin ito. May kasabihan nga: In unity, there is strength hindi ba? Unity in diversity doesn’t necessarily mean that since you have your own platform, your own advocacies, doesn’t mean that we can’t compromise, and you can’t join forces together to work for the betterment of the country. And that has been the message of the President,” Adiong said.
