FORMER senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Tiuesday said several active high-ranking police officials were recruiting members to join a destabilization plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
According to Trillanes, retired military officials were also trying to recruit soldiers to support the ouster plot.
In a press conference, the senator said “recruitment” started last year.
However, he said no member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has joined the ouster plot so far.
He expressed belief that the plot is intended to protect former President Rodrigo Duterte in light of the possible issuance of arrest warrant against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in relation to the alleged crime against humanity during his drug war.
Trillanes said based on the information from individuals who are “privy to the investigations being done by the Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC,” the ICC may issue an arrest warrant against Duterte by June.
According to the former senator, the ICC is looking into seeking the assistance of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to implement the arrest warrant.
Trillanes, a staunch critic of the Duterte administration, said a blue Interpol notice may also be issued against other politicians and former and active officials of the Philippine National Police .
Marcos earlier said the Philippines will not cooperate in the ongoing ICC probe into Duterte’s drug war, as the ICC has no jurisdiction over the country.
