METRO Manila is now under a state of calamity due to heavy rains and flood brought by habagat enhanced by typhoon “Carina.”
The Metro Manila Council (MMC) on Wednesday afternoon convened at the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) headquarters in Pasig City and approved the resolution placing the National Capital Region under a state of calamity.

The MMC made the decision after 12 of the 17 local government units voted for the state of calamity declaration.
The other five LGUs were not able to participate in the meeting.
Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. and MMC chairman and San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora presided over the Council meeting.
The declaration of a state of calamity enables the local government to access emergency funds swiftly and implement relief operations to aid the displaced residents.

Since Tuesday, many parts of Metro Manila have been flooded due to continuous rains.
Several roads were rendered impassable.
