DESPITE grieving over the loss of her fiscal-father, a female lawmaker from San Pedro City in the province of Laguna immediately attended to the needs of the more than two barangays heavily- affected by the floods brought by non-stop rain due to typhoon “Carina” since Tuesday.
A day after the burial of her father, Fiscal Rene Garcia on Wednesday, Congresswoman Ann Matibag of San Pedro City and her staff members expressed their love to the people of Carmen Homes in Bgy. San Antonio and Sitio Kangkungan South Fairways Homes in Bgy. Landayan.
“That’s what my father really taught me since I was a young public servant… to be more accessible to the people as an elected government official, especially during times like this,” Matibag said.
“My father told me that at in any given situation, time or place, you have to serve your people 24/7,” she added.
The solons group went to the Rosario Complex to provide 66 individuals from 16 displaced families at Sitio Kangkungan South Fairways Homes in Bgy. Landayan with food, water, coffee and cash assistance from their own pocket while they treated the children with Jollibee meals.

Attorney Melvin Matibag, the solon’s husband, also went to Carmen Homes in Bgy. San Antonio to extend help to the typhoon and flood victims in the village.
The lawmaker’s husband also gave cash assistance from their family’s pocket.
Matibag, who was grieving after her father passed away, stayed hands on to her congressional duties as she even attended President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s third State of the Nation’s Address (SONA) last Monday at the House of the Representatives in Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
“I still have to attend the SONA despite our situation, but I know my father’s presence is always there at my side to guide me to do the right things,” said the solon, who wore the country’s national flower Sampaguita-made dress designed by Filipino fashion designer Michael Leyva.
“Amidst our family’s grief, I whole-heartedly supported our beloved President Ferdinand “Bongbong Marcos “ Jt. on his third SONA. It’s truly worth every second to hear about the administration’s successes as it continuously achieves momentous triumphs for the Filipino people,” she said.
She thanked President Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez for laying the country’s great foundation for a brighter future.
“From economic reforms to the passage of laws, the administration has truly laid the foundation for a brighter future for our country. I will forever be grateful and proud to be part of the Philippines’ 19th Congress under the leadership and tutelage of President Bongbong Marcos,” said Matibag.
