PH SEEKS STRONGER TIES WITH INDONESIA

PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has sought stronger ties between the Philippines and Indonesia.

President Marcos received Indonesia’s President-elect Prabowo Subianto in Malacañang on Friday, the first visit of the new foreign leader to the Philippines.

The President referred to Prabowo’s visit as a sign of the growing relationship between the two nations.

“I think your visit here today will certainly bring a new impetus to making that relationship between Indonesia and the Philippines stronger and bigger,” he said.

Prabowo, for his part, reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the ties between Indonesia and the Philippines.

“I came here today to pay my respects because exactly one month from now, on the 20th of October, God willing, I’m going to be inaugurated as President of the Republic of Indonesia and perhaps it’s the Asian way, our custom before, we enter into a new position, we call on our friends,” Prabowo said

“And to reconfirm my commitment to strengthening the close relationship that we have had traditionally between the Philippines and Indonesia,” he added.

The Philippines and Indonesia established diplomatic relations on Nov. 24, 1949. The two countries will be celebrating its 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year.
