SEOUL – Hyundai Motor Co. and two other carmakers will voluntarily recall more than 600,000 vehicles due to faulty components, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Thursday said.
The three companies, including Kia Corp. and GM Korea, are recalling a combined 607,502 units of 10 different models, said the transport ministry.
Problems that prompted the recall include an error in the design of the airbag control unit in 312,744 units of two Hyundai models, including the Sonata sedan, and 285,327 units of two Kia models, including the Forte.
Also, 8,592 units of Kia’s EV9 model are subject to a recall due to a software error in the electronic brake system.
A total of 839 vehicles across three models, including the Escalade, imported and sold by GM Korea, are undergoing corrective measures, also due to a software error in the electronic brake system. (Yonhap)
