THE Quezon City government is set to roll out electric buses that will provide free transport service to its residents.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Wednesday said the project shows the city government’s commitment for environmentally sustainable practices.
“We are excited to roll out these electric buses as part of our city’s dedication to implement programs and policies that promote environmental sustainability,” she said.
Belmonte said the city government has procured eight electric buses with a 41-seating capacity per unit.
According to her, an electric bus has enough space to accommodate standing passengers and is also equipped with wheelchair ramps to support the mobility of persons with disability (PWD).
She said initial testing of the eight buses will start in the next few weeks.
The acquisition of electric buses is part of the city’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent in 2030.
The eight electric buses will join a fleet of over 100 QCity buses that operate along key routes in Quezon City and offering free transport services to its residents.
