POLICE on Thursday arrested a town councilor, along with his driver, for hitting a barangay kagawad with a baseball bat in Marilao, Bulacan.
Nabbed were Andre Fabian Santos, 41, an incumbent municipal councilor and a resident of Bgy. Poblacion 2, Marilao, Bulacan; and his driver Fortunato Juares, 34, of Poblacion 2, also in Marilao.
Witnesses told police that victim Rodolfo dela Cruz, 60, a kagawad and a resident of Bgy. Tabing-ilog, Marilao, Bulacan, was busy overlooking a medical mission in their barangay when the suspects arrived.
Minutes later, Dela Cruz and Santos engaged in a heated argument, which resulted into a brawl.
The suspect and the victim were pacified by two police officers present in the area and convinced both parties to resolve the misunderstanding.
However, Santos went to his vehicle, got a baseball bat and hit the victim once in the head, prompting the police officers to arrest him while the victim was rushed to the Dr. Joni Villanueva Public Hospital in Bocaue, Bulacan for medical treatment.
Charges for frustrated homicide and direct assault to a person in authority were filed against the arrested town councilor.
