VICE President Sara Duterte on Friday failed to appear before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) which had subpoenaed her to explain her remarks to have President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez assassinated.
The Vice President sent her lawyer instead to request a new appointment date.
The NBI rescheduled Duterte’s appearance before the agency to December 11.
According to NBI Director Jaime Santiago, lawyer Paul Lim submitted Duterte’s letter requesting to appear at a later date.
“We expected the Vice President to appear at 9 a.m. Actually, nagpadala na ng advance party and checked the premises early this morning. But then, dumating dito ay si Attorney Paul Lawrence Lim with a letter requesting for a resetting,” Santiago said.
“Apparently, the Vice President ay late na niya nalaman na canceled ang kanyang appearance before the House Committee hearing. So, tapos nag-hindi na siya nakapunta dito and asked for a resetting,” the NBI director added.
The House earlier canceled the hearing to allow Duterte to comply with the NBI subpoena.
Duterte was subpoenaed by the NBI following her statement that she has contracted an assassin to kill the President, the First Lady and Speaker Romualdez if she is assassinated first.
The Vice President later said her statements were misinterpreted.
