THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday issued a new subpoena to Vice President Sara Duterte to allow her to explain her statement that she hired an assassin to kill President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.. if she dies.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the subpoena is for Duterte to appear to air her side on December 11.
In an online briefing dawn of November 23, Duterte said she had already tapped an assassin to kill President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she is assassinated first.
In the said online press briefing, Duterte said her directive is “no joke.”
The press briefing was held after the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability ordered the transfer of her chief of staff, Undersecretary Zuleika Lopez, from the House detention facility to the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.
Lopez was cited in contempt over “undue interference” in the committee’s investigation into the use of confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President.
The Vice President was initially set to appear before the NBI on November 29 but only her lawyer came and requested a reschedule after Duterte found out late that the House Committee hearing she was set to attend had been postponed.
