KINGDOM of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy on Saturday was rushed to the hospital due to pneumonia, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) confirmed on Tuesday.
BJMP spokesperson Supt. Jayrex Bustinera said Quiboloy complained of difficulty in breathing while detained at the Pasig City Jail.
The KOJC leader was transported by the BJMP Pasig City Jail Dormitory personnel to the nearest government hospital.
Doctors at the Rizal Medical Center (RMC) recommended Quiboloy’s confinement after he was diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia but advised his transfer to a hospital with more advanced facilities.
“The initial diagnosis by the hospital is community acquired pneumonia,’’ Bustinera said.
Following the doctor’s advice of Quiboloy’s transfer to another hospital, Bustinera assured the public that Quiboloy remains under BJMP custody and that strict security is in place while in hospital confinement.
“We assure the public that PDL (person deprived of liberty) Quiboloy remains under BJMP custody and that strict security is in place while in hospital confinement,” he said.
Quiboloy is being held at the Pasig City Jail as he faces a non-bailable qualified human trafficking case before the Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 159.
The KOJC leader was also charged with violating Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
In November 2024, Quiboloy was transferred to the Pasig City Jail from the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
