THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday recommended to the Department of Justice (DOJ) the filing of inciting to sedition and grave threat charges against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The charges were in connection with the Vice President’s remark that she hired someone to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and others if she dies.
Duterte last year said that she had arranged for President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez to be killed should she be assassinated.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said sufficient evidence was found for the charges.
“We have already filed it with the DOJ…They will determine whether to conduct a preliminary investigation and whether to file the case in court,” he said in a press briefing.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on the possibility of charges being filed against her in court, the Vice President responded, “ As expected.”
Dutete earlier denied making the controversial “kill” remarks despite the viral video showing her doing so.
The Vice President said that her remarks were taken out of context.
Her kill threat was among those cited by civil society groups when they filed impeachment complaints against her.
Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives last week on charges of “violation of the constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
A total of 240 or more than 80 percent of the 306-members of the House of Representatives voted in favor of the Vice President’s impeachment.
