TWO “persons of interest” in the rape-slaying of a 23-year-old female tourist from Slovenia in Boracay Island are now under police custody.
Authorities said the suspects were arrested in an anti-illegal drug operations.
The duo are undergoing questioning for their involvement in the rape-killing of Michaela Mickova.
An examination conducted by the PNP Forensic Group showed that the victim from Slovenia was also sexually abused.
The victim’s body was discovered by local residents around 2:19 p.m. last March 12 in an old chapel at Zone 3, Sitio Pinaungon in Bgy. Balabag , Malay, Aklan.
She was lying supine, with her legs spread, underwear missing and her upper clothing rolled up when found.
Her real cause of death is still to be released by the local police.
An investigation showed that Mickova arrived in the world-famous island last March 1 to attend the wedding of a Filipina friend and her foreign fiancé.
A report from the Police Regional Office 6 said that the Slovenian was forced to travel to the country alone after her Egyptian boyfriend, who happened to be a friend of the groom, failed to get his Philippine visa on time.
The victim’s Filipina friend reported her missing last March 10 after failing to contact her several times.
The friend also offered a P50,000 reward for any information that would lead to Mickovas’ whereabouts.
Police said the victim met the suspects in the island.
Probers are looking into robbery and rape as possible motives forthe killing.
Meanwhile, police assured the public that the incident is an isolated case. They said Boracay Island remains a safe and secure destination.
